For a few days after your wisdom teeth are removed, some swelling is to be expected, and will be proportional to the surgery involved. For example, a simple wisdom tooth extraction will yield significantly less swelling than the complex removal of impacted wisdom teeth. To minimize the swelling, patients are advised to continuously apply ice to the affected area for the first three days. Beginning the day after surgery, I recommend warm salt water rinses six times a day, espe...cially after eating. For several days following the procedure, patients should eat soft, nutritious foods, drink plenty of fluids, avoid strenuous activity and maintain optimal oral hygiene to promote healing and ensure a swift recovery. Once the initial recovery period is complete, patients are advised to take special care of the cavities where the wisdom teeth used to be. Over time they will fill with new tissue, however, in the meantime they need to be kept clean with optimal oral hygiene and routine salt water rinses after meals.

As an initial course of treatment for moderate to severe sleep apnea, I will commonly prescribe a CPAP (or continuous positive airway pressurizer) machine. Worn snugly over the nose during sleep, the CPAP is a breathing mask that supplies pressurized air flow continuously into the patient's throat, preventing obstruction and enabling normal breathing. If you are seeking relief from sleep apnea, your first step will be to meet for a private consultation about your treatment options by calling 310-734-4616 today!
