Don’t have much space? With raised bed and container gardening, you can plant quite a few plants in a limited area. Our 3’ x 4’ raised bed has 30+ plants! The key is to space plants 5-8 apart, and place plants that need more sun and grow taller on the south and west side of the bed or container, while planting those that need less sun to the north and east side of the sun-lovers. Our demonstration garden has a winter tomato, snap peas, Lacinato (Dino) kale, red Swiss chard, ...Brussels sprouts and sun-loving flowers planted on the south side (with Lacinato kale at all four corners), while plants requiring less sun like our celery, Scarletbor kale, leaf lettuce, calendulas and violas are on the northern side.
