The Department of Pan-African Studies at Cal State LA is refusing to accept the continuation of anti-Blackness by campus administrators. They assumed that we would sit idly by and go along with their nonsense, but we say enough is enough. This letter to the campus community announces our #BlackRefusal to participate in any activities of the so-called College of Ethnic Studies, which has been completely taken over by administration. We are calling upon other colleagues at Cal State LA and elsewhere to support our refusal. You can read the full letter at the following link. #BlackoutCalStateLA #BlackRefusal #Justice4JacobBlake https://drive.google.com//1TrTSb_9ejmq3wQ3XeQuiGrwir/view

You can still register for PAS 4170 - Fall 2020 Hip Hop as Political Expression will explore Hip Hop culture as a form of pedagogical and political expression with specific emphasis on its relationship to anti-authoritarian and abolitionist social movements. While mainstream rap music has become little more than a source of entertainment in the popular imagination, we will consider the ways that Hip Hop culture remains a potentially revolutionary vehicle for anti-authoritarian and abolitionist consciousness-raising and political praxis.
