I have been testing and evaluating people’s natural reactions to traumatic events for years and many of my training philosophy’s have been developed by understa...nding how the average person would react in such a situation. It’s not surprising that I see the same reactions and responses over and over again. It’s who we are. When dealing with someone trained in martial arts or other fighting disciplines, their response is completely different. It is important that we recognize that our instinctual response may not produce the desired outcome therefore we have to teach ourselves better ways to overcome situations. If you have the time to learn defensive fighting tactics, great. If not, learn less complex methods that improve your ability to defend yourself and allow you to use your tools. The bigger concern is not that this FBI agent dropped his gun or even accidentally discharged it when he picked it up, it’s that he walked off without any concern that someone was or may have been shot.
