The Pacific Garden Program 03.11.2020

As we prepare for today’s third annual Earth Day Garden Party in the Robb Garden, we are fondly remembering (and missing!) our former Sustainability Coordinator and Pacific alumna, Laural Klafehn. Laurel’s boundless energy and beautiful spirit made the first garden party a rousing success. She is now in Colorado, doing well, and lending that energy and spirit to the very worthy cause of immigrant advocacy. Brava Laurel! #UOPacific

Osher Lifelong Learning students Silvia, Deb and Jill were painting en plein air in the Robb Garden this morning - what a perfect spring activity in the garden! They are studying with Pacific's Adjunct Professor of Visual Arts, Deanna Hunt. #UOPacific

We have quite a crew preparing to bring you today's Robb Garden Farmers Market: two folks from our Sacramento campus, Community Garden Coordinator Maria Schiffler and Campus Events Coordinator Monica Alarcon; our own campus Sustainability Director, Jessica Bilecki; and our ever-reliable Kyle Kha, one of the Robb Garden Interns. Don't miss the market, 11:30am-1pm TODAY in the DUC! #uopacific

I love this amazing and bizarre plant, "Walking Onions." Instead of producing a globe-shaped flower at the top, as most alliums do, it produces a batch of baby onion plants, complete with bulblet and rootlets (you can see them in these pictures, straining to unfold from their membrane). As they grow, their weight pulls the stem over, and the baby onions plant themselves - thus the moniker "walking". You can see some pretty cool stuff in Pacific's Robb Garden! #UOPacific

Lot's of new things appearing in the Robb Garden... artichokes, an innovative way to grow potatoes, new trellis system for the grapevines, an iris über-bloom... better come over and see! #uopacific
