Normally during this time of year, Oxnard Firefighters would be teaming up with Oxnard Police, and SWAT teams to spread some holiday cheer for some of Santa's helpers. Unfortunately the Heroes and Helpers event had to change slightly to remain Covid-safe. In the spirit of Christmas, Santa was still able to make a visit to some of his helpers and thank them for their good behavior this year! Merry Christmas Everyone!
The Holiday season is quickly closing in on us and that means the Spark of Love Toy Drive is once again here! The Fire Departments of Ventura County are teaming up to help spread holiday cheer to families in need! Throughout the months of November and December toys can be donated at fire stations in Oxnard. The Collection will be hosting drive-thru toy drop-offs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th. For more information about the event click on the following link: https://vcfd.org/spark-of-love-toy-drive. #SparkOfLove
Its already the last week of October! If you haven't already picked up your Oxnard Fire Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirt there is still time to support the cause! Thank you to everyone who has been supporting the cause! Here are a few photos of folks showing their support! #ribbonsoflife
What would you do if you knew that tomorrow there would be a major earthquake in your area? Would you stock up on food, water and batteries? Would you put together a first aid kit or get an extra supply of critical medications? Maybe you would spend the day securing or tying down furniture and heavy objects in your home. Or spend the time teaching your family members how to turn off the gas, water and electricity. Perhaps you would go room to room and identify safe areas to d...uck, cover and hold on when the shaking starts. Unfortunately, we don’t have the luxury of knowing when or where the next damaging earthquake will hit. The only sensible thing we can do is prepare now so we are ready when a quake strikes. Being READY means we know what to do when the shaking starts and we are prepared to be 100 percent self-sufficient for a minimum of 5 to 7 days! Today, Thursday, October 15th at precisely 10:15 am the City of Oxnard will join 11.7 million people throughout the United States as we all participate in the annual Great ShakeOut Drill! Join us and be better prepared for a real Earthquake!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To show our support Oxnard firefighters will be donning our pink t shirts! These t-shirts are available for purchase at our administrative office located at 360 W. 2nd St. in Oxnard. The profits from t-shirt sales will go to Ribbons of Life; this local charity is committed to the fight against breast cancer. If you would like to show your support for the cause stop by our administrative office and buy yours! #ribbonsoflife #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth2020

The Oxnard Fire Department responded to 669 fires in 2019 causing 5 civilian injuries, 1 fatality, and $7,593,964 in losses. 169 were residential fires. Please stay focused and alert while cooking as cooking fires are still the number one cause of house fires. Check out this quick video on for a technique on how to put out a grease fire. #FirePreventionWeek2020 #OxnardFire #CityofOxnard #OxnardFirePrevention
This past weekend Oxnard Fire stations were lit up in all red to pay homage to firefighters who have been lost in the line of duty. This event is special to us because it gives us the opportunity to remember one of our own, Captain Scott Carroll. Attached are several photos from this weekend events. The "Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters" was done around the nation; if you would like to see more please visit www.firehero.org. This event also kicks off fire prevention week, where the focus is kitchen safety and preventing cooking fires. Keep an eye out for future posts regarding fire prevention week!
Very cool tribute to one of our guys taken way too soon...
This Saturday, October 3rd the Oxnard Fire Department will be participating in the "Light the Night" for Fallen Firefighters. This is an annual event where Fire Stations around the nation pay homage to our fallen comrades. Stations 1, 4 and, 8 will be lit up red in honor of our brother Scott Carroll; who we lost in 2015. If you would like to visit one of these stations or drive by to pay respects please take all necessary social distancing precautions. October 4th at 10:00 am you can click on the link below for America’s Tribute to Fallen Firefighters www.firehero.org.
On September 11th 2001 one of the worst terrorist attacks occurred on American soil in the history of The United States of America. Nearly 3000 Americans lost their lives that day; included were 343 New York City firefighters, 72 law enforcement officers, and 55 military personnel. We would like to honor the first responders and military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their bravery will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families who lost a loved one that day. Flags will be flown at half staff in remembrance of the lives lost 19 years ago.
Yesterday the National Weather Service predicted significantly higher temperatures for Oxnard for this weekend so we have decided to open 2 cooling centers. Please see attached information flyers for locations and times.
Please read the information below regarding the Ventura County air quality from the Ventura County Air Pollution Control Board:
The Oxnard Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of Keith Thompson to the rank of Fire Engineer, Paul Macen to Fire Captain, and Steve Reyes to the rank of Battalion Chief. We wish these individuals the best in their new positions and are looking forward to seeing them excel in in all their future endeavors.
