Hacked! In the last week two Outback Solutions’ clients sort our assistance after having their devices hacked. Before I say anything more, please note I am NOT criticizing anyone who finds themselves in this very disturbing situation. I admit I to having been tripped up by these malicious intrusions. It is not a question of intelligence, or tech savvy. Most people are compromised because their guard is down due to fatigue, rushing, overload, lack of sleep or some other form ...of stress. Needless to say, there is no shortage of any of these currently and hackers prey on human frailties. Now, how to avoid the problem and what to do, or not do: 1. NEVER click links, open attachments or videos, visit websites or otherwise open any unexpected or unusual application (including email) no matter how alluring, attractive or seductive. This goes for social media and messenger apps as well. 2. NEVER download anything unless you are expecting receipt of it. NEVER download from any site with which you are not familiar. 3. If you experience an intrusion event, DON’T PANIC! You’re not the first or last person to fall foul of the issue. 4. If you feel your computer has become infected shut down as many functions as you are able and run your virus scan. If you can’t run the scan or can’t access the computer functions, shut it down immediately. Under no circumstances call any phone number which appears on your computer screen, no matter how official it looks. Call your own tech support people ASAP. 5. If you think your social media or some other website account has been hacked, the very first thing I always suggest is change your password. Please make the password strong, and make a physical note of it. 6. You should also check the app for assistance. Facebook has a link just for this purpose at; https://facebook.com/hacked 7. You can also Google for assistance. Remember someone else almost certainly traveled this road! Use others’ experience to your benefit, but check several suggestions and use legit websites.
