Most of my friends and clients know I'm a 3rd generation SF Realtor. My grandfather started his own real estate and insurance office in 1954, in the heart of Chinatown at 813 Clay St. One year, it served as the Chinatown campaign headquarters for Harold Dobbs's run for SF Mayor (he ran and came in second 3 times). (After graduating law school in 1942, Dobbs was hired by the law firm Lillick, Geary, Olson, Adams, & Charles, becoming the firm's first Jewish lawyer and first Has...tings graduate. He remained there until 1956, when he left to establish his own firm with William Ferdon, called Dobbs & Ferdon. After the death of Ferdon, the firm became Dobbs & Doty.) Dobbs's law partner John Doty, was married to Marcia Boll Doty. During the campaign, John Doty was known to accompany Harold Dobbs to all events, and was probably present at my grandfather's office in this photo. Marcia, who's about 19 years older than me, would later become my business partner for 11 years. I used to joke to Marcia, "That would have been funny if I had a crystal ball, and at the age of 10 walked up to John Doty and said to him, "In about 25 years, your wife and I will be real estate partners." Isn't life strange, sometimes? A couple of years after Marcia retired from real estate, Natalie Rome and I found each other, and it's been an amazing 13 year run that's still growing strong.
