Let’s talk about baby teeth There are some that believe kids shouldn’t see an orthodontist until ALL baby teeth are lost. This is actually FALSE We see man...y patients with baby teeth for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it’s the baby teeth themselves that are the issue For example, Jacqueline lost one of her baby canines early and that caused all of her lower teeth to shift to her left and block out space for her erupting adult canine. During Phase I early orthodontics we opened space for her adult canine and shifted her midline back to her right . Jacqueline had another issue in the top right called eruption failure . Her upper right adult molar was stuck under her baby tooth and did not erupt 2 years past it’s expected eruption date Also during her Phase I early orthodontics we were able to bring that adult molar in. Phase I treatment is succes...sful and works because the bones in our skull are not fully fused at a young age . For underbite patients, we can easily and painlessly advance the upper arch . Later in life this requires surgery The most successful and stable underbite corrections are done before the age of 9 so remember to visit an orthodontist by the age of 7 to check for skeletal imbalances that need to be treated early!
