The scholarship committee of OSDIA Weed Lodge #1269 is pleased to announce the winner of our 2020 scholarship. Darian DeBortoli, daughter of member Brad DeBortoli and Karen, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship to help in her educational goals. Darian is a graduate of Mount Shasta High School and will be attending UC Davis in the fall to pursue a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. She plans to continue her education to obtain a master's degree in integrative... genetics and genomics. Darian ". . . has always loved biology. Everything about it intrigued me. However, I fell in love with the real-world applications and the power of biology. It is incredible to me that through biological sciences, we can remove genetic mutations, find vaccines to infectious viruses, and save millions of lives." Her career plans are to work for a biological research center as a biomedical scientist. "Biomedical science combines the fields of medicine and biology to make advances in the health of humans, while biomedical scientists go on to make advancements in the study of infectious diseases and propel science toward improving the human condition in hundreds of ways." Longtime member of OSDIA Weed Lodge #1269, Cesira Regina Salvestrin, recently passed away on May 13, 2020 in Yreka. Cesira, age 93, was a member for the past 40 years. Her survivors include three daughters and one son - Jeanette (Rod) and John (Deb), both members of Weed #1269; Betty (Pete) of Brookings, OR, and Lawrie of Chico. Our sincerest condolences are sent to the entire Salvestrin family. Private family graveside services were held at Winema Cemetery in Weed. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, Weed, Winema Cemetery, or a charity of your choice.

We are pleased to be able to donate the use of our kitchen for this Weed Chamber of Commerce event. We are committed to helping our community when possible. . . and this is one of those times! Thanks to the Weed Chamber for feeding our families.

We are saddened by the passing of our Brother Sam (Little Sam) F. Catalano on Saturday, March 28, 2020. He would have celebrated his 90th birthday in September. Sam was a Weed Lodge #1269 member for 62 years. There will be no services at his wish but donations can be made to the Winema Cemetery. Send those to 355 Dollar Avenue, Weed, CA 96094 Our sincere condolences are sent to Mary and all members of their family.

Dear Members, Even under these times of online classes to finish the school year, we will continue to offer our Weed Lodge #1269 scholarship to the children or grandchildren (no great-grandparents) to Weed Lodge members in good standing. If you have a child or grandchild who will be graduating from their local high school in June of 2020, make sure you talk to them about this scholarship opportunity.
