From the board of the Friends of the Orcutt Library: With the recent passing of Jan Cutler on September 7, 2020, we would like to offer some thoughts as we remember her. Jan had a lifelong love of the library and served as past president of the Friends of the Orcutt Library. Under her leadership, she explored local property that could possibly be donated in order to build a new Orcutt library. Lynne Turner, a long-time volunteer for the Orcutt Library, knew Jan for close to... 40 years. They met in the early 1980s in AAUW. Lynne recalls that Jan always had a passion for reading and activism with the FOL. She would help with the book sales and spent many hours organizing donated magazines for sale. She was an important part of the decisions and work in relocating the library from the much smaller Oak Knolls shopping center to the current location in Old Town Orcutt. Jan spent many years of dedication and service to the Orcutt Library and later volunteered to work in the gift shop at the Santa Maria Library. Jan will be remembered for her love of reading, activism and service to the library and community. She will be missed. See more
Coming soon! The Santa Maria Library newsletter announced that the main library and branches will reopen for limited grab and go services. Staff is finalizing safety plans we eagerly await the reopening date. This is such good news and let us spread the word.
The library system as a whole, and Orcutt library staff Virginia and Mary Beth, are doing an awesome job during this challenging time.
Erin is the best!
