According to a study done, it shows that a baby's heart rate synchronized to that of the mother or father when they approached, but not to a stranger. This shows "that babies and their caretakers are entwined in a homeostatic relationship, with the baby clicking in with the parents to achieve some sort of balance". (Our Babies, Ourselves, emphasis mine) This study also found that 3-month-old babies and their mothers' hearts would coordinate in rhythm when the mom smiled or showed signs of affection.
