Today we say goodbye to @openwindowscooperative in its current form, as we release the space and equipment to a new group of printers and artists to continue on. It has been a blessing and a joy; thank you for coming along, supporting and giving life to the project the last six years. Shmatas are ...rags, fabric that has lived a life and outgrown its original purpose: a floral bedsheet from childhood, an old Hendrix tee, a parent’s old polo shirt. Reminiscent of agricultural landscapes viewed from a bird’s eye, the inky patches tell a story of years of creative work and productivity. In the seventh Jewish agricultural year of Shmita, we release and rest the land. Rather than struggle towards neatness, Rosen embraced imperfection in the spirit of shmita when making this piece. Quilting transforms shmatas into an heirloom object that keeps someone warm as they rest, often gifted or handed down. Through recycling, storytelling and warmth, the quilt creates a legacy of care for the seventh generation, just as the shmita year regenerates the land to sustain us with abundant harvests. See more

I'm sadly letting go of my lease at Yosemite Place. This 771sq ft studio is AMAZING, I love it so much, but it's time as I have moved to Oakland. Ideally lookin...g for someone to take over the lease January 1st and then make an arrangement for a move out/transition in January. We have a full letterpress studio which needs a new home, including 8x12 C&P, type cabinets, board shear, book press, flat files, etc. Please email [email protected] for more info! Charged with an intelligence questions answered with more questions, the hope of a fluid archive and a genuine lightness & emotion that can only be identified to me as one word: reunion. For me this time of isolation has many myths, the most cynical one that I sometimes hold onto is that we are alone. But I know that is not true. gratitude. #openbook7 chosen family & community is the gift.
