Here are two different versions of Matthew 6: the 1st being NIV and the 2nd KJV. At first glance there are no dramatic differences however, there's one that stands out to me. verse 10 in the NIV says "on" earth and KJV says "in" earth. To the average reader this would make no difference and it doesn't change the status of one's salvation or anything of that nature. To me, however big or small, i find it fascinating that they would use the word "in" earth. I'm to the mind that... the reference "in" is to, in us, mankind, being that we were created from the dust, or earth, therefore having the very same elements and minerals that are found "on" the earth... Now, knowing this fact, say the prayer again using "in"... to me, it kind of personalizes it... NIV 9 This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, "on" earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ 14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. KJV 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done "in" earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
