You may have heard COVID-19 vaccines have side effects, but the side effects experienced by most are actually a good thing - they're a sign that the body is building immunity and the vaccine is working as intended. Repost from One Medical Santa Monica team member @julissamariecastillo. Thanks for sharing, Julissa! "As recent as a month ago, I wasn’t sure I would get the vaccine as soon as I was able to. Like many black and brown people in this country, I have a (valid) mistrust of the medical system that so often uses our bodies as test subjects to experiment on and discard. But, I figured I owed it to myself to do as much research as I could about this particular vaccine developmen...t. So I read about how mRNA vaccines work, and I read about the trials, and I read smart explanations from BIPOC scientists and medical professionals. And I got answers that made me feel better about making this decision for myself. So, I did it! I received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine about two hours ago, through my employer@onemedical. So far I feel normal (a little over-caffeinated but what else is new). We have been told to expect potential side effects similar to getting a flu shot, but so far so good. I’ll be getting my second shot in 28 days! Since we don’t know if a vaccinated individual could still transmit COVID-19 to someone else, absolutely nothing about my life will change. Still wearing masks everywhere. Still isolating as much as possible. This is just one piece of the puzzle, but it is an exciting step towards one day getting back to normal!"
