For the first time ever the Statue of Liberty's observation decks are accessible to wheelchair users. Proof that it is possible to design rennovations to make monuments more accessible to everyone while still maintaining historical integrity.
If your looking to see a guy power through jungles and the australian outback in a self-modified powerchair, then this documentary is for you. I'm still looking into where to find it and once I do I'll be sure to post it.
Gabriela Cellini at the opening for the juried show her bird painting (pictured on the wall in black and yellow) was accepted into. We are all so proud of you Gabriela!
Get your tickets now for the Bridge School Benefit October 20th and 21st. I'll be volunteering at the gallery so make sure to stop by! See you there!
One of two paintings by my mom, "my first student" accepted into the Art Ability Exhibition. Congratulations Mom, I couldn't be prouder!
I love this photo. Start counting your dollars and purchasing tickets for Australia, the Other Film Festival starts September 19.
I love the methods that Chuck Close has devised to create large paintings despite his physical disabilities. My favorite has to be the entire wall that moves up and down by the push of a button. It's a good thing he made a ton of money before having to paint from a wheelchair!
Axis dance company will be giving a free performance at the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival Saturday July 14 at 1pm. Axis creates powerfully integrated choreography between dancers with and without disabilities. I'll see you there!
New work by Kiki Smith and Valerie Hammond inspired by 19th century spirit photography. In my opinion Kiki Smith is such an important artist in that she has turned the figurative tradition in sculpture inside out by creating objects and drawings based on organs, cellular forms, and the human nervous system. If your not already familiar with her work...there is no time like the present!
Submissions are free! Get out your video cameras and get rolling!
