Archbishop Gomez’s full statement follows: "I join my brother bishops in praying for all those who have died and been injured in the recent winter storms. We pray especially for those without power and heat and for first responders who are offering assistance to those with urgent needs. In our Lenten almsgiving, let us find concrete ways to help our brothers and sisters. I entrust those who are suffering to the Immaculate Heart of our Blessed Mother Mary. As we close out our week focusing on love and marriage, we direct our invitation to the CHILDREN of married couples. In Gaudium et Spes (Joy and Hope, the Past...oral Constitution on the Church), it states: As living members of the family, children contribute in their own way to making their parents holy. Holy men and women should have hearts full of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience all qualities which flow between parent and child, nurturing them and strengthening the bond between them. As you think about the role you play in your parent’s life, both spiritual and temporal, we invite you to offer a prayer for them and to light a candle honoring their sacred union.
