We're just a few hours away from a special holiday book signing of "Four Paws, Two Feet, One Team" at BookSmart of Morgan Hill TODAY FROM 11AM-1PM! It's your chance to talk to one of the authors of Operation Freedom Paw's new children's book, and our founder, Mary Cortani. The book signing will be outside, in front of BookSmart. We'll be practicing social distancing protocols and a mask is required. If you're in the neighborhood, we hope you'll come by. It's a chance to purchase a gift that gives twice- to the kids in your lives and to our mission.
We love this collaboration with BookSmart of Morgan Hill. The holiday book signing with Mary will take place outside, in front of the store, where social-distancing protocols will be followed and masks are required. Hope to see you there!
Wishing everyone joy and love on this #TBT

It's difficult to see the road ahead, when your sight is obstructed by a wall of pain. Ken lived every day in pain. His medical issues forced him to make heartbreaking choices, like leaving his career in order to manage that pain. As many veterans do based on their military training, Ken pushed through the physical and mental trauma, and used his willpower to go beyond the boundaries his mind and body were trying to set for him.... When Ken first came to Operation Freedom Paws, he was still trying to ignore what his body and mind were telling him. When he was paired with Lucy, his first instinct was to ignore her too. After all, she was going to change the internal dialogue he had known for so many years. That wall of pain was also making it hard to focus, a wall that would also help keep Lucy at a distance. So he thought. But little by little, Ken started to notice Lucy and her alerts. He realized her alerts were helping him understand how to regulate his activities, respect his body's boundaries, and make the best decisions for his physical and mental health. Lucy had seen beyond the wall, she had seen Ken, and that allowed Ken to truly see himself. Lucy has changed my life so much. When I finally connected with her, I felt that I was OK. She accepted me without judgment. Our match is magical. Since Ken and Lucy graduated as a OFP Certified Service Dog Team, Ken has been inspired to become a social worker, so he can help others to change their internal dialogue, and see themselves without judgement too. When you chose OFP Dog Daycare & Boarding, you help to support our non-profit mission and empower stories like Ken and Lucy's, thank you!
This Feature Friday goes out to all our wiggle waggin' furry guests who bring us so much joy And thank you to all their hoomans who continue to use our kennel services, and in turn, support our non-profit mission.
Liat had the will, if her body could find the way. When Liat came to the program, she was suffering from multiple medical issues, and was hospitalized several times during the training program. But she never let it stop her. We respected Liat's drive to push through her symptoms, but we also knew how important it was for her NOT to ignore them. Liat came to the program with her puppy Ponyo. Mary knew with OFP's targeted training, Ponyo had the ability to grow into a keen com...municator who could deliver Liat the messages her body was trying to tell her. Ponyo did become that keen communicator and Liat became an avid listener, who developed not only a great understanding of herself, but a powerful voice of her own. Now as a graduate of the program, Liat is back at college and studying to become a teacher. She just made Dean's List and is Operation Freedom Paws most recent mentor-trainer candidate! Liat shared, "OFP taught me that I need to listen more to my body, and that it’s OK to be different. I’ve become an advocate for myself and my dog, and now I have no problem sticking up for myself. I love interacting with other clients and seeing their progress." Stories like Liat and Ponyo's are why we do what we do. We are so proud of this incredible student of the program who is now poised to teach and help others.

Today’s Medical Monday is getting a jump on the National Pet Obesity Awareness Day (October 14, 2020). It is a growing problem, literally. Our pet’s come in all shapes and sizes. And we do love them so much! And it is easy to overfeed and treat those adorable faces but we must remember the long-lasting effects on their health. Dog weigh is harder to lose; one pound in a dog is the equivalent to five human pounds. Some ideas to help maintain a healthy weight or lose a few poun...ds (which must be gradual) are proper daily exercise, using food puzzles to slow consumption, using measuring cups when serving, not permitting grazing (leaving the food bowl down and filled all day), and avoiding high calorie/high fat treats. As always, it’s important to talk to your veterinarian whenever you have changes or concerns about your doggie’s health. Be active! Be healthy! Be happy! See more
