We can guarantee that if you spend most of your days looking down at your phone or computer then you have caused some internal damage to your neck. The X-ray on left shows a picture of how ones spine looses its curvature. Notice how straight the spine is. Common symptoms that are found with this type of posture is stiffness, pain with looking over your shoulder, numbness down shoulders and arms, and inability to keep head up for longer than a few minutes (ie reading book).... Don’t keep dropping your head and give us a call to retrain your body to feel normal again. #ocpt #ocpt_livelifenow #newportbeach #costamesa #livelifenow #pilatestraining #massage #adjustments

One of the more intimidating things for patients following a surgery is the unknown Will it hurt? How long until I am back to normal? What does recovery even look like? When you have these valid questions, it is good to have someone on your side that specializes in post-surgical recovery and understands the unique factors that present with each different surgery and individual. At OCPT we look at each individual case and approach it with the patient in a couple easy-to -und...erstand phases. Phase 1 - Together we establish expectations (Plan of Care) for the road ahead, answer any pressing questions about your recovery, and most importantly- get you MOVING! In a way that promotes healing, reduces swelling, and manages pain. The goals here are making sure YOU, the patient understands what to expect with your recovery, what you will be responsible for at home, and what we will be accountable to you for. Phase 2- this is the longest phase of recovery, during this phase you will gradually build up your recovering body part to a level necessary to meet the demands of day-to-day life such as sleeping, walking, using the stairs, reaching overhead, squatting, and tolerating positions such as prolonged sitting/standing for the demands of your day. Phase 3- the final phase- in conjunction with you, we will grade you back into the activities/hobbies that you love with specific techniques/activities unique to your hobby. These activities include but are not limited to cycling, running, swimming, golfing, soccer, tennis, team sports etc. Some unique techniques that our Doctor’s of Physical Therapy may employ for you along your road to recovery Aquatic Physical Therapy (Aqua Jogging) - great for cardio when you are recovering and unable to run on land Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization Blood Flow Restriction Electrical Stimulation Techniques Many Varieties of Manual Therapy Therapeutic Exercise At OCPT, we take the UNKNOWN out of the recovery process and position our patients to succeed quickly and confidently so that they can LIVE. Ever Heard of Graston? ASTYM? scraping etc? What is it and what makes it a hot topic in the rehab/fitness world? All these techniques are used by clinicians to help people who are experiencing pain in soft tissues, whether it be from injury or chronic dysfunction. They all use a tool to aide the clinician better detect the disturbance in the tissue than they could potentially with just their hands, fingers, or elbows. These techniques may be the most popular, but there is ma...ny more out there and new ones coming out everyday. All of this techniques fall under an umbrella term coined Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM). IASTM techniques have become wildly popular amongst clinicians and patients alike due to the speed at which a change can be initiated in the affected tissue. IASTM alone is NOT the solution to a musculoskeletal injury, but can be a valuable tool at a clinician’s arsenal to get you to recovery faster! The goal of all IASTM techniques is to initiate a MILD INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE in the affected tissue- bringing in crucial nutrients and blood flow to the injured area. It is commonly used in itis conditions such as plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinitis, rotator cuff tendonitis, lateral/medial epicondylitis, and many more. Here at OCPT, we love to bring the big guns out when deemed appropriate to help our clients feel better, faster! To learn more give us a call or send us a DM!!! Remember, IASTM is a great tool to speed up recovery, but only in combination with corrective exercise, activity modification, Nutrition, and sleep hygiene! It’s all part of an elevated healing experience! #ocpt #livelifenow #newportbeach #costamesa #physicaltherapy See more

Early Lateral Ankle Sprain Rehabilitation Inversion ankle sprains (i.e. foot rolling inwards) are the most common form of ankle sprain. When this occurs, the muscles and ligaments on the outside of the ankle are torn to varying degrees. Inadequate rehab following an ankle sprain can lead to persistent pain, stiffness, and risk of future sprains. Early phases of rehab should focus on reducing pain and normalizing ankle range of motion. 1. Active Assisted Ankle Plantar F...lexion/Dorsiflexion & Inversion/Eversion: Gentle range of motion in non-weight bearing is a good place to start Slide ankle forwards/backwards & rotate in/out. 2. Foam Roll Calf Muscle: Slowly roll up/down muscle to reduce ankle stiffness when bending ankle 3. Active Ankle Dorsiflexion with Inversion & Eversion: Bend ankle upwards and slowly pivot on heel inwards and outwards. This strengthens muscles in the front of the ankle and improves ankle dorsiflexion range of motion. 4. Isometric Eversion: With a band around the toes, keep the sprained ankle stationary as you generate resistance by moving the other foot outwards. This strengthens peroneal muscles, located on the outside of the ankle.#anklesprain #stance #rehab #newportbeach #costamesa #irvine #injury See more
