Match Report: OCCA Winter League 2017/18 Semi-Final Opponent: Inland Empire (IE) Man of the match: KV (Venkata Nagaraju Kesanam) for picking up 3 for 9 and his sharp captaincy.... In the first semi-final of OCCA Winter League 2017/18, Orange County Knights won the toss and elected to bat first. Knights started off well with the opening pair of Gaurav and Devender putting up a stand of 22 within three overs before Gaurav departed. Dev kept the runs flowing from one end with some lovely shots while at the other end wickets kept on trembling one after another. Dev was later supported by Priyansh and KV to take knights to a fightable score of 108. Dev ended up scoring 42 off 38 balls including 3 fours and a six on a tough wicket to bat on. Later in the second innings, Knights came out all guns blazing. The duo of Piyush and Mustufa started proceedings and bowled 6 overs in tandem, beating the bat multiple times before Mustufa struck in the fourth over of the innings. Soon skipper KV brought himself into the attack and right away removed IE opener Viren. KV ran through the middle order in no time picking up 3 wickets in his four over spell. Then Gaurav, Usman and Bipin bowled tightly in tandem along with some sharp fielding to put Knights in the driver’s seat. With some tight bowling, sharp fielding and brilliant leadership, Knights restricted Inland Empire to 86 and secured a spot in the final of OCCA for the fourth consecutive time. Match Report: OCCA Winter League 2017/18 Quarter Final Opponent: Spartan CC Man of the match: Piyush Purohit for his all-round performance of 3 for 6 and a quick-fire 35 off 22 not out. After winning the toss, Spartans CC asked OC Knights to field first. Knights struck early courtesy of Piyush removing Shaveen with a jaffa, and from then on Spartans kept losing wickets in regular intervals. With the help of some tight bowling and fielding, Spartans were eventually bowled out ...for 89 runs with Piyush leading the attack with 3 for 6 in his four over spell. Later in the second innings, Dev and Gaurav opened the innings and played cautiously to get through a tricky period. The duo laid a solid foundation for the middle order with an opening partnership of 40 runs. The duo departed in quick succession bringing Piyush and Usman to the crease. Piyush came out all guns blazing and scored 35 off 22 balls including 3 huge sixes to take the team home. Knights won the match with 8 wickets and 4 overs to spare. OC Knights will begin their Winter League title defense against Inland Empire within less than 2 weeks on 12/2/17!

Devender Singh Choudhary, highest run scorer of OCCA Summer League 2017! Dev as usual played consistently throughout the tournament scoring 265 runs at an average of 38 and strike rate of 134, including two 50’s. Dev played a crucial role in helping knights win their third title with a match winning knock of 70 off 56 balls in the semi final and again scored a quick fire 30 on a difficult wicket in the final.

Raghav Mehra, Best Batsman of OCCA Summer League 2017! Raghav was in the form of life throughout the tournament scoring 244 runs at an average of 48 and strike rate of 160, including two 50’s and a 100. Raghav’s breathtaking 100 off 48 balls against Tuskers was the highlight of the tournament. Raghav scored consistently throughout the season including a 71 not out, batting throughout the innings.
