When you’re trying to accomplish what has never been done before, it is necessary to make your own tools to help get you there. Captain Evy designed, built, and welded Kwai’s custom net-hauling device: a four-pronged, stainless steel hook that is used in conjunction with the ship’s hydraulic crane. Though some nets are small enough to be brought aboard by hand, the kind of nets Kwai is looking for weigh more than a ton, and the only way to get them aboard is by crane. ... This massive ghost net might be beautiful in our ocean, but it is deadly to fish and other ocean creatures. This net was just a fraction of the total 340,000 pounds of plastic debris cleaned up on our 2020 expedition. Help us to get these nets out of our ocean in 2021, and reach our one million pound goal. Over 650,000 marine animals die every year from ghostnet entanglement. Please support our efforts to cleanup these plastic killers from our ocean! We aim to remove over 1million pounds of plastic from the ocean in 2021 and would appreciate your sharing information about our work with your family & friends. You can become part of the solution and help us clean our oceans! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hu0APhbB-1U
