After years of selflessly investing his time, wisdom and passion, our incredible co-founder, Barry Ackerman, is retiring. Barry served as the Children’s Book Festival’s Executive Producer, starting with the event’s founding in 2004 and concluding with the 2017 festival. He continued serving on the Board of Directors through 2020. The epitome of an altruistic servant, Barry’s tireless work toward ending illiteracy cannot be overstated. A REMINDER! (Copied from EverBright News) Get your binoculars ready, there is a rare sight coming to the skies in the Northern Hemisphere! On December 21 two of the largest planets in our solar system, Jupiter and Saturn, will align with earth in their orbit around the sun. The two planets only align about once every 20 years, so it is a special sight to observe. Here’s how one NASA expert explains it, You can imagine the solar system to be a racetrack, with each of the pla...nets as a runner in their own lane and the Earth toward the center of the stadium. From our vantage point, we’ll be able to see Jupiter on the inside lane, approaching Saturn all month and finally overtaking it on December 21. The two planets will be just one tenth of a degree apart, so they will appear like a massive winter star. It was 1623 the last time Jupiter and Saturn came this close, and it will not happen again until 2080. The Greatest Great Conjunction will be observable from anywhere on earth, so head to an open area where you can get a good view of the sky and look to the southwest. No special equipment is needed, but a small telescope or binocular swill help you see all the details of Saturn’s rings and the four moons of Jupiter!
