Alta Journal recently launched the California Book Club, a new monthly virtual gathering devoted to literature from and about the Golden State. Did you know that we have a "Library of Things" in the Contra Costa County Library? This collection has some pretty useful tools, and really fun kits. What's there? The C-Pen is a reading tool for those who may have impaired vision, or difficulty reading. Scan it over the line and it reads to you. The Energy Efficiency Toolkit contains a thermal scanner and other monitoring devices to help figure out where you can save some on your energy bill.... The Outdoor Explorer Backpacks contain a parking pass and entrance card for any East Bay Regional Park, plus trail and identification guides. Lead writer for the Cartoon Network Amy Keating Rogers will participate in a live presentation on Zoom on Saturday, October 24 at 2:00. We are celebrating Free Comic Book Day in October! We'll be handing out free comic books by Front Door Service appointment 10/24-10/31 at the following libraries: Antioch, Bay Point, Brentwood, Clayton, Danville, Dougherty Station, Hercules, Lafayette, Oakley, Orinda, Pleasant Hill, Pittsburg, San Pablo, San Ramon, and Walnut Creek. Be sure to come pick yours up!
Bats, peaches, ducks, ribbons, monkeys, horses. What do they all mean? On Tuesday, October 20, from 6:307:30 p.m., a docent from the Asian Art Museum will use selected objects from the fabulous collection at the Museum to aid in unraveling some of the hidden messages within Chinese art in this fascinating and fun talk. Join You, Me, We, Oakley! for a virtual celebration of Día de Muertos (the Day of the Dead) on Sunday, November 1. Register by October 26th to attend free Zoom workshops (one of which will be pre-recorded by Ms. Lisa and Ms. Lucia from the Oakley Library!) and learn how to create authentic decorations for your own ofrenda; supplies will be provided for registrants. You may also honor your loved ones in the community ofrenda organized by You, Me, We, Oakley! Júntense con You,...
