COME IN COSTUMES AND GET YOUR SPOOKY STICKERS! Halloween originates from an old Celtic festival of Samhain. This day was remembered by the Celts as the end of summer, symbolizing human death and ghosts coming into the world. People would dress up in costumes and light bonfires during this time to hide and scare the ghosts away. On November 1st, when the Catholic Church came to the Celtic Nation, they brought All Saints Day, which was also called All Hallows Day. Mos...t of the traditions came together and merged from each of these cultures, and so All Hallows Eve became Halloween (the day before All Hallows Day). Although it’s set to be founded in Ireland, it became popular in the United States when the Irish were fleeing their home country to escape the potato famine. On October 31st, people come together to celebrate a holiday called Halloween (also named All Hallows Eve). It is a day when people get together in costumes to celebrate and dress up as superheroes, villains, cartoons, or even get creative and design their own costumes. At night, kids go trick or treating by knocking at neighboring houses to ask for candy. Halloween is also celebrated by costume parties for kids, parades, bonfires, haunted houses, and carve jack-o-lanterns from pumpkins. The Mid-Autumn Festival, or Moon Festival, is a traditional festival celebrated by many East Asian countries. In most Asian countries, it is a time for family reunions, similar to Thanksgiving in American culture. It traditionally falls on the 15th day of the 8th month in the Chinese Lunar calendar. This year, it will take place on October 1st, 2020. In the past, East Asian countries’ emperors used to celebrate and worship the moon to give thanks to the autumn harvest. The f...estival’s origin is told through different legends and myths. For example, one of the daughters of the Emperor of Heaven came to Earth and became attracted to a cowherd. As soon as the emperor found out that not only did she love him, but also married him, he created the Milky Way to separate the two of them. One legend explains that Rebels wrote messages in paper and slipped them inside mooncakes, which helped the Ming revolutionaries overthrow the Mongolian rulers of China at the of the Yuan Dynasty.
