Amazing Video celebrating Oakland that reminds us of all the stellar spoken word that was performed on the stage at The Box. Check it out! And of course it had to be directed by a spoken word legend, the one and only Jamie DeWolf.

Now our old friend Micah Hobbes Frazier knows the deal about tonight! Listen up she's speakin the truth! We've had a glimpse of the rehearsal and wow Jennifer Johns and the crew ARE THE TRUTH! Wise words from Hobbes who is currently out of the country: so here's the thing y'all....i can't be at this epic event tonight. i know! it is real sad and im kinda heartbroken about it. y'all don't even know all the magic that's going to happen. so here's what i need from y'all: ... 1. show up tonight in full force and love 2. fully enjoy every moment of musical brillance (there will be plenty!) 3. dance, cheer, clap, shout (at "appropriate" times of course), and show all the love 4. do all of the above for me too! 5. post pictures, videos, etc so i can get my life thru you thanks in advance my people *p.s there is still time to get your $20 tickets. hurry tho, you'll be mad if it sells out and you miss it. hella mad. and then i'll have to be sad for you, and neither of us has time for all that so.... Oakland Box Theater 27.08.2020

Breaking News: After over 11 years of losing the original Oakland Box Theater and Gallery space (aka The Black Box), The Box will re-launch this winter as a core programming partner with the current owners of The Uptown Nightclub. The venue will also be under NEW MANAGEMENT. All management responsibilities will be given to Oakland Venue Management, the local company that was born out of the operations experience of creating and managing the original Black Box Theater, the leg...endary venue 2232 MLK (now The Starline Social Club) and Historic Sweet's Ballroom from 2001-2009. Get ready Bay Area. We are on a mission to help #keepoaklandcreative so please spread the word and figure out how you can personally help support this important effort. Here's a video from 2011 Box 10 Year Reunion Party featuring many of the artists that made the original space something unique to the history and culture of Oakland. Let's do it again, Oakland! Are you ready? See more

"Gathering places have played a major role in building the relationships that have given birth to movement organizing. From coast to coast there are examples of thriving spaces that facilitate new levels of of relationship-building and community dialogue, places where voices are heard, spirit felt, and powerful new directions forged. Some places are a twist on the familiar; others are a result of a radical revisioning of what walls and a roof can provide for the community." - Claudia Horowitz

Who remembers Fiyawata? Very cool video was produced in 2003 at the Oakland Box Theater (aka Black Box) by Box Co-founder Frank Truncale. It features our dear friends Ambessa and Zakiya. As many of you know The Uptown Night Club has folded and we are hoping to purchase the the business and reopen The Box for the community of Oakland. Here is the video: http://vimeo.com/3167654 LONG LIVE THE BOX!
