Each year, the last Sunday in September is Gold Star Mother’s Day, a day set aside to recognize their grief, sacrifices, and strengths. Gold Star Mothers are Mothers who have lost a son or daughter in the service of our country. A Gold Star Family is one who has lost a family member in the service of our country Where the Gold Star comes from: During World War I, families with loved ones who were currently serving hung service flags with a blue star for every immediate family member who was currently serving. If that lovedone died, the blue star was replaced by a gold star. This allowed members of the community to know the price that the family had paid in the cause of freedom. How Gold Star Mother’s Day got started: Starting in 1936, the United States began observing Gold Star Mother’s Day on the last Sunday of September. At the end of World War II, Gold Star Wives was formed. Today, the tradition extends to all family members. This is a day we recognize the pain, grief andsacrifice mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers and sisters must endure when a loved one dies in service to our nation. Our military families serve this country alongside our military heroes. They provide support while their loved ones are away, they raise families in the absence of their partners, and they pick up the pieces when their loved one is killed or injured in the line of duty. If you are a Gold Star Mother or Family, we honor your sacrifice and thank you for your service. If you know a Gold Star Mother or Family, please take time today to recognize them.

Located on the hill across from our historic Great Mausoleum it features beautiful panoramic views of the valley and can seat 60 people in compliance with local health regulations. Services here will include outdoor audio and video system including two cordless microphones, two 65 anti-glare televisions and DVD player for video tributes. Amid this difficult time, this is an amazing location to hold any funeral service or Celebration of life.

During this unprecedented time, we at Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park remain deeply committed to the health and well-being of the community, our guests and associates. For the safety of all as mandated by law, we are complying with executive orders issued by Santa Clara County Public Health, Emergency Operations Center, and effective June 5, 2020. This Order limits gathering of people in groups no larger than 10 people for indoor gatherings and no larger than 25 peop...le for outdoor gatherings. Accordingly, we are unable to assist with services that exceed this number. We reserve the right to stop or decline to provide service where the attendees exceed either of the limits as mandated by Santa Clara County Public Health. Oak Hill Memorial Park has had the honor of hosting our annual Memorial Day Commemoration for over 100 years. During these trying times of the Covid-19 pandemic we are following state and county mandates prohibiting gatherings exceeding 10 people, Oak Hill Memorial Park will post this year’s Memorial Day Commemoration on www.oakhillfuneral.com, Oak Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park’s Facebook page and United Veterans Council of Santa Clara County Facebook page as well as s...everal local veterans websites. The ceremony can be seen online starting Memorial Day, May 25, 2020. Excerpts from the ceremony will also be featured on ABC Bay Area television and ABC.com. Because we care, we strongly encourage everyone to continue to follow the current shelter in place and social distancing mandates and watch our ceremony from the comfort of your home. The cemetery will continue to remain open for visitation from 8AM-6PM and American flags for the gravesites are available at our reception desk and records office for your convenience.
