We are proud to announce that Oak Crest has successfully filed an application with the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and now has a Clinical and Public Health Laboratory License from the California Department of Public Health. The license allows Oak Crest to accept human samples for diagnostic testing from outside sources. This is an important milestone for our Pathogen Core and extends the capabilities we have built through our COVID-19 testing protocol to... external partners. The Imaging Core at Oak Crest recently contributed to a publication in the American Journal of Pathology relating to the RGR-gene in age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a progressive eye disease that causes blindness in the elderly. Oak Crest provided Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) images supporting the finding that the splice variant RGR-d causes deposits in the Bruch’s membrane and a degeneration of the tissue structure. Check out the publication in the American... Oak Crest has collaborated with scientists at Scripps Research and UCLA to publish results from a recent study involving combination drug treatment for Hepatitis C (HCV). The publication is the first to detail the therapeutic effects of pairing two drugs which, together, provide increased efficiency in inhibiting HCV replication as well as preventing antiviral drug resistance. Moreover, the study explores the benefits of the two-drug combination in reducing the development of... liver fibrosis and liver cancer. Invizyne, which is the first startup located in the Oak Crest Incubator (MOST-IP) are talking about their path to success! Join MADIA for a virtual Meet-up and Networking with Monrovia’s cell-free, synthetic biology production company Invizyne Inc., on February 10, 2021, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dr. Tyler Korman, Invizyne’s Cofounder and Director of R&D, will discuss Biosynthesis Beyond Biology: The Next Wave of Bio-Production. (Check out Invizyne @ https://www.invizyne.com/). Inv...izyne’s new approach to synthetic biology takes the factory out of complicated living cells to make chemicals easier to produce and extract. Their proprietary, sustainable enzyme systems enable simple and efficient routes to chemical production. Unleashing enzymes for production outside the cell allows Invizyne to achieve the diversity and specificity found in nature, along with the scale and efficiency found in traditional chemical manufacturing. Presentation starts at 7:00 p.m. and is preceded by virtual networking at 6:30. Invite your friends and checkout the entrepreneurial scene at the heart of San Gabriel Valley. Hangout on Zoom after the presentation to continue sharing ideas, networking, and enjoying your favorite beverage. #syntheticbiology #startups #innovation #sbir #manu #manufacturing #networking #chemical #production
