"Whenever land is controlled by a community within the participatory framework of a CLT, the transformative potential is present to nudge the places where people reside toward greater security and opportunity for all. Common ground provides a versatile platform for promoting development with justiceand justice that lasts." #commonground
We need to make sure corporate real estate investors and speculators don’t take advantage of the #COVID19 crisis like they did in the Great Recession. Support #AB1703 and Californians’ right to stable housing. #StableHomes4All #residentcontrolledhousing #communityownedland
As we mourn the death and celebrate the life of civil rights warrior, John Lewis, CLT activists should be reminded of his early support for the cooperative mode...l of tenure that became known as the community land trust. In 1968, he participated in the first planning session for New Communities Inc., convened by Slater King, Charles Sherrod, Bob Swann and others on their return to the USA after studying moshavim and kibbutzim in Israel. Ten years later, he was the plenary speaker at the first national CLT conference in Atlanta. More recently, he was featured in the 2016 documentary, ARC OF JUSTICE: THE RISE, FALL AND REBIRTH OF A BELOVED COMMUNITY. In that film, he lauded New Communities for being a new way of thinking; a new way of doing something: cooperative land ownership; not just an individual, but a community. The CLT movement has lost a faithful champion. See more
The real estate speculators, flippers, vultures are swarming around the flatlands of Oakland, looking to take advantage of the uncertainty of now and struggles residents are facing. They're also wildly, laughably mistaken when targeting OakCLT with their direct mail marketing schemes. Community-owned land is not for sale!!!
"Getting community land ownership to scale is a political fight, however. It must be fought from the bottom-up, as with Baltimore’s community-driven Trust Fund priorities, and from top down, like with the FHA’s Duty to Serve initiative. We’ve been wandering in the desert of displacement for too long. But there is a promised landone that offers security of tenure and affordability. We will own it together." Great piece by our comrade, Peter Sabonis, at Partners for Dignity and Rights.
The #covid19 economic recovery and pursuit of #racialjustice can be simultaneously advanced by the use of #sharedequity affordable homeownership for families of... color. Grounded Solutions Network is seeking the funding to scale #CommunityLandTrusts which have proven to protect land & build wealth for communities of color in the South and across the nation. https://harpers.org//we-shall-not-be-moved-collective-own/ #WherearetheFunders Urban Land Conservancy Northwest Community Land Trust Coalition City of Lakes Community Land Trust Proud Ground Island Housing Trust Homestead CLT Athens Land Trust New Communities at Cypress Pond Oakland Community Land Trust Elevation Community Land Trust Tenemos que Reclamar y Unidos Salvar la Tierra-TRUST South La
