A university is assembling a team of experts whose goal is to look at all possible causes of this problem from a scientific perspective, so that fewer families will be devastated by drug misuse. The research effort includes a strong push to explore the neurological mechanisms of addiction, in the hopes that this understanding will help us begin to address the multifaceted aspects of addiction, including behavioral, social, economic and psychological factors.

Here are some ways you might consider supporting your family member as he or she undergoes inpatient treatment: 1. Write letters of encouragement 2. Make yourself available for family counseling sessions 3. Visit your family member when it is permissible at the rehab facility. ... By showing support throughout the recovery process, families can help to restore the self-confidence that the recovering family member has been without for some time. Families who work together through the process heal and grow together. What other forms of support do you do for a loved one?
What are the differences?

Don't ever give up on your dreams and most importantly don't ever give up on yourself! Small consistent actions in the right direction each day lead to big things over time. Take action! Don't ever give up!
Out with the old, in with the new. It's easy to get caught up in dwelling in the past. Value your past, both the good or the bad, as lessons of how to better go about shaping your future. Focus on the things that are important to you now and work to build a solid foundation for the future. It starts with hope and happens through taking consistent action in the right direction. Believe it! Do the work!
It's important to reflect upon and value your strengths because it can serve as a reminder of how capable you are of surviving life's ups and downs. Be proud of who you are and what you represent. Let us know, what do you do that makes you feel the proudest?
Compassion can be one of the most powerful tools for helping someone suffering from addiction. When it comes to helping a friend or loved one in need, what they often need most from you is your compassion and understanding. The word compassion comes from the Latin roots com (with) and pati (suffer), so it denotes suffering with another person. When we offer someone genuine compassion, we join them in their ""suffering"". You make them understand that you're there, feeling what they feel. The word ""suffering"" takes a whole new meaning--a beautiful one at that. Don't you think?
