What Day is It? Every morning, when our granddaughter Mackenzie wakes up, the first thing she does is open her pocket calendar to mark the day of the week. She keeps it with her in bed, along with a pen. When she hears the words, Time to get up, she sits up, grabs her pen, and marks the day. I asked her about it one morning, and she told me she checks to see what day it is. There is some wisdom to be learned in her actions. In fact, it would be good for all of us to k...now what day it is. So, let me ask: What day is it? Monday? Tuesday? Wednesday? Knowing the day of the week reminds us of commitments, appointments, schedules, and so on. Technology today is great for setting reminders for our daily activities, much better than the proverbial string tied around your finger. An alert set on your phone reminds you there is an important meeting at work on Monday. Another reminder signals you on Tuesday, saying, the kids have soccer practice. Wednesday there is a doctors appointment. These helpful reminders are a great tool. Our days can be quite full of activities. Sometimes things get lost or forgotten in all the busyness. Let me give you a reminder to set for every day of your life. You can mark it in a pocket calendar to keep with you in bed, or set your phone to alert you each day of the week. Here it is: What day is it? This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24 Imagine waking every morning with this verse as the first thought that comes to your mind. Perhaps, Monday is full of activities, and you are not sure how you are going to get everything done. Rather than beginning the day with a heaven sigh, remember: This is the day the Lord has made, and you can rejoice and be glad in it. Tuesday is a doctors appointment you are dreading. However, rather than becoming overwhelmed with worry, remember: This is the day the Lord has made, and you can rejoice and be glad in it. No matter the daily challenges, no matter how crowded the schedule: This is the day the Lord has made, you can rejoice and be glad in it. Take it from a nine-year-old, knowing what day it is can be quite important. Now, go out and enjoy God’s gift of today! John Buttrey
