In the year 1940 the world stood on the threshold of many if not most of the astounding advances in the field of medicine. Since then three generations of physicians and scientists have performed surgery on infants still in the womb, restored vision and hearing to the blind and deaf, eliminated through drugs and vaccines diseases that killed tens of millions of children every year and made organ transplants routine. Join us as we describe these and many other medical marvels that were once in the realm of science fiction. In anticipation of the Decameron Project going live this upcoming Monday, we're going Behind the Desk and delving into the story that started it allThe Decameron! Written during the time the infamous Black Death swept through Italy in the 14th century, it contains 100 stories-in-a-story and features folks from all walks of life. What is The Decameron Project? In 2020, we called out for short stories loosely centered around the pandemic and many authors submitted. A judging panel of folks from San Diego Public Library, Write out Loud, La Jolla Historical Society and San Diego Writers, Ink. selected 100 to be published, printed and even some to be performed later this month!
