It’s without a doubt that 2020 challenged us all, and with this new year we are ready to stay positive and look ahead! We are thankful for the lessons on gratitude and patience, and our hopeful resolution for this New Year is to get back to dancing together! Through the trials of this past year we hope that kindness and hope shine through for this new beginning, because the best way to move forward is by lifting each other up. When the masks are removed we hope your love of dance is still there, as we will be more than ready when those big doors open! Who’s with us? Happy New Year!

We are so proud of the bravery and resiliency within our community these past few weeks, and we are especially proud to share this story of one of our extremely talented JDC alums, Bailey Farren. Evacuated or not, we hope you all are safe and together with your families. We love you Sonoma County!

Hello Sonoma County! Here is our long-awaited message regarding classes this Fall: Schools are gearing up for online classes, companies are extending work from home policies until the new year, and it doesn't look like social distancing guidelines for large groups will be lifted any time soon. With that in mind, it breaks our hearts that we will be postponing the start of our dance season and JDC tryouts until students can learn safely in person at the Vets Building. We would... love to complete our 2019-2020 dance season with one more dance class on a Tuesday night and our Graduation Dance to follow sometime in December or January 2021. This of course depends on state guidelines and safety protocol at the time. We don't know what the Spring will look like regarding starting classes after the New Year, but we will keep you all as informed as possible with our difficult decisions. We are still here and waiting patiently, as everyone is, for a clear direction from healthcare professionals, Sonoma County school districts, and the state of California as to what the safest action is that we can take to move forward with our upcoming dance season (including JDC tryouts). Although our community is opening back up, partner dancing is one industry where we can’t just install plexiglass barriers and stay 6 feet apart. We are just as eager as you are to get back to dancing, but the safety of our students, their families, and the community as a whole is a top priority. We will post any new updates as they become available. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and support in these very unpredictable times. We hope you are all well and staying safe!

Respect has always been one of the foundations of the Nordquist Dance program. Respect for your dance partner, for yourself, and for our community are woven into our lessons about social ballroom dance. Respect is not only the admiration of one’s abilities or achievements, but more importantly, respect is due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others. We all must push ourselves to do more to practice respect not only on Tuesday nights but actively throu...ghout our daily lives. This includes standing up for those that need their voices heard, being kind no matter the circumstance, and continuing to educate ourselves to better understand how we can help. We are hopeful that these pillars of respect are action items that we can all agree on as a community to be more inclusive. It is crucial that our whole community, along with the rest of the world, takes a step back to examine any unconscious biases or tendencies that are hindering a culture of inclusion, as our hope for the future includes equality and safety for all. Dance is rooted in cultures from all over the world, and to deny the diversity in dance is to deny its innate beauty and power. We are always striving to achieve more diversity in our program. Our passion is to bring dance to our community regardless of your background, race, or identity and we will be taking the extremely necessary steps to bring diversity to our student base that reflects the many cultures of Sonoma County. We are with you and will continue to be an ally to all for generations to come.

Happy Tuesday, everyone! We have a BEGINNER level intro to salsa class for you to try out and have some fun with today! In this combination you'll learn the salsa basic, footwork variations, and maybe even get your heart rate up! No partner required, enjoy!

Hello Sonoma County! We have an ALL LEVELS class today that you dont need any prior experience for, so we hope we can get everyone up and dancing! We typically teach partner dance in our Tuesday classes at the Veteran's building, but sometimes we have themed nights where we branch out to other styles like line dance! So today we will be teaching the Watermelon Crawl, which is a well-known upbeat line dance for you all to enjoy. Have fun!
