During the Spring Break Camp, we held a week of classes for youth empowerment focusing on local histories of resistance and resilience. Generations of Student Struggle and Power introduced students to the lineage of student resistance including struggles such as: the 1968 Masacre de Tlatelolco, L.A Walkouts, Third World Liberation Front, El Plan de Santa Barbara, The Battle for Chicano Park, 2006 Student Walkouts, Current Struggle with Ethnic Studies, and the current struggle... for the Renaming of Craven Hall at CSUSM. Students were able to identify themes in the student struggles that have taken place throughout generations and that continue to inspire student movements. They were also able to reflect on their own stories and their position in student struggles. Question for our students: How do you see yourself as part of the current and future generations of student struggle and empowerment? One of our student's responses: I'd like to help out, to be a part of this movement to show our story and our past and why it should matter to others as well. #resilientresistance #YouthEmpowerment
