Good Morning Lake Arrowhead!! Remember that wearing a mask is as important with a small mouth as it is with a large mouth!!
Interesting article in today’s OC Register out of Hoag Hospital. Potential non-specific immunity in health care workers offering protection from COVID-19. If true, then it would certainly apply to dental providers. https://www.ocregister.com//health-care-workers-may-be-l/

Along with my other orthodontic and dental colleagues we are making plans for returning to work and returning to caring for all of our patients. I have been in continued contact with all of our amazing staff throughout this crisis and could not be more appreciative of each of them. Their positive attitudes are inspiring and make me as anxious to see them again in person as I am to start caring for each of our patients in person. I have had virtual consults with a number... of patients and have been amazed at their ability to make creative emergency adjustments and modifications at home via FaceTime/Duo. I have been in the office for a few emergencies, the most recent being a sidewalk displacing several teeth and needing my hands on care. You will see changes in our office systems and facility upon our return providing enhanced protections for all of us. Once we have approval to reopen, we will bring our staff back the week before for training and rescheduling patients. Those of you who know me understand my affinity for John Wooden's philosophies and quotes. This one applies now. See more
Mary making masks for social contact, (need a different level of course for patient care), Dr. Nisco gets a custom version. Stay safe and healthy everyone. We will continue to have Kristine answering phones, either in office or remotely, during the week. Dr. Nisco continues to be available for emergency tele-consultations via FaceTime and other media. There could be circumstances where you need to be seen for a significant emergency either at our office or with your general dentist. If you have any questions, please reach out to us

To all of our orthodontic patients, families, and friends, Our staff and myself share our love and support for all of you as we all work together with our families, friends, and communities during this unprecedented time in our lives. In following the recommendations of the CDC, CDA and the State of California, we have extended our office closure through the end of April. If possible to re-open sooner we will of course be prepared to do so. We are also preparing measures for... potential extended closure. This week we will start contacting everyone with an existing April appointment for rescheduling. There will be staff answering our phones remotely, Monday through Friday, with varying hours. All messages will be returned via call or text. Dr. Nisco's cell phone number will be on our after hours recording and he will handle emergency calls personally. Since our mandated office closure, we have been handling emergencies remotely by texting photos, videos and communicating via FaceTime. This has worked quite well. Below are 2 additional resources available while the office is closed. The American Association of Orthodontists has an orthodontic blog available that give nice details regarding everything from minor discomfort to cleaning teeth around braces. Keeping your teeth clean and healthy is one more way to protect yourselves and those around you from illness. This is the AAO link for home care, hygiene and minor emergencies: https://www.aaoinfo.org/blog/ Dr. Greg Asarian, who is a good friend, great orthodontist and former student of mine at the UCLA Section of Orthodontics, created a YouTube Channel to explain orthodontics in easy to understand terms. Dr. Greg's videos could not be more timely. Below are links directly to a video explaining how to identify and correct several minor emergencies at home, along with a link to his entire library. Braces Explained, Common problems handled at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql6mcukDGR0 Braces Explained - YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql6mcukDGR0 Please stay safe and stay healthy everyone. We will continue to be here for you throughout the COVID crisis and look forward to seeing you again in person once it resolves. Until then, please let us know if there is anything we can do for you. Remember that your smile is just as powerful from any distance, and a great way to keep personal spacing social in a positive manner. With love and prayers for everyone, Dr. Matt Nisco & Staff
https://www.aaoinfo.org/blog/ The American Association of Orthodontists has created an orthodontic blog. Covering many topics including orthodontic emergencies. Great resource for our patients to browse. We will continue to provide phone coverage remotely for both of our offices and Dr. Nisco will perform remote consultations on demand using digital photos or FaceTime as needed. Dr Nisco will continue to email all patients with updates through completion of this national emergency.
