Enjoy a panorama of the American River and its diverse wildlife from our ADA-accessible viewing platform! 3 new interpretive panels and 2 benches have been installed for your convenience. Access the deck by parking in the public lot, which is open from 7AM-3PM, and walking down the River Discovery Trail, past the USGS monitoring cable. Bring your binoculars and cameras!

Dear Salmon Fans, although we are not hosting public events this salmon spawning season, please know that we appreciate your enthusiasm for these amazing animals! This video will give you a glimpse of the fish ladder opening at the end of October 2020, as well as an update on our ladder improvement project (to be completed for the next spawning season in 2021). The new ladder will even include viewing windows for the public to enjoy watching the salmon. Even though we have o...utdoor facilities, we remain closed to protect public health and discourage large gatherings. Nimbus Fish Hatchery is a very popular feature of the Sacramento area and tends to draw many visitors daily. Keep in mind, the River Discovery Trail and parking lot are still open from 7 AM - 3 PM daily for your recreation. We will continue to do our best to reach you all virtually this year. Follow us for updates on the ladder, salmon/steelhead spawning and free educational events! See more

Hi Salmon Fans! We know you are just as excited as we are for the annual return of Chinook salmon! Please keep in mind, this year we are NOT hosting an opening event for the fish ladder, due to public health needs. Additionally, current construction has reduced the size of our parking lot and impacted river access, although you may still walk along the Visitor Center's interpretive trail. We will record a video of the ladder opening and post it to our FB page during the first week of November. Also, check out our Events page to register for FREE live webinars throughout next month! We are even working on installing a LIVE-FEED camera for non-stop salmon action that you can view right from home! More details will be announced as we roll out our resources. Thank you for your cooperation and your enthusiasm!
