On May 10, 2021, the United States Department of Treasury (Treasury) released a Dear Tribal Leader Letter announcing the formula and the process for distribution of the $20 billion tribal set aside within the American Rescue Plan Act (ARP), Fiscal Recovery Fund. The ARP allocates $20 billion to Tribal governments, directing that (i) $1 billion is to be allocated equally among eligible Tribal governments; and (ii) $19 billion is to be allocated to Tribal governments in a manner determined by the Secretary of the Treasury. Treasury will host an information session on Thursday, May 13, 2021, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. EDT to provide an overview of the program, review all relevant materials, demonstrate the Treasury Submission Portal, and answer questions. This morning I had the great but bittersweet honor of requesting that we adjourn in the memory of two giants in our California Native American community -- Joseph Myers and Marshall McKay. it is amazing that Joseph invited me years ago to speak to Indian justice students, and now I'm sitting in the Legislature as the first elected California Indian. His granddaughter later interned for us. God is good. Last week I posted on the many contributions that they made not only to Native American culture preservation, justice, and so much more -- but also across the country and state. Amazingly, they both passed on the same day, December 29. Rest in peace dear friends; your good works and valiant spirits will keep your memories alive forever.

On his first day in office, Joe Biden signed an executive order yesterday directing the Interior Department to place a temporary moratorium on all oil and natural gas leasing activities in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Our education program students have studied in business, nursing, environmental science, social work, education, liberal arts and many other subjects. Every semester we do our best to support all students who apply!
