A remarkable observational study in Taiwan found 57% less risk for lung cancer among people eating at least 130 grams of sweet potato greens per week. That shou...ldn’t be surprising. Sweet potato #greens are rich in flavonoids, have 20% more lutein than spinach and 50% more potassium than bananas. But most intriguingly, they’re a uniquely rich source of caffeoylquinic acids which have shown powerful anticancer properties in other lab studies. That may explain why #sweetpotato leaf extract has been observed to suppress human lung #cancer cells in a test tube by up to 90%. So if you’re looking for a healthy new green to try, consider thesewith just 42 calories per serving. These studies are at Pubmed under 17704030 and 26032078 and 17199331 See more

Herbalist and healer, Susie Jim Billie, collecting medicinal plants on the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation in Florida. . Ms. Billie was mentored in plant medic...ine by her grandfather and uncle, who were both Seminole folk healers. In addition to herbs, Billie and her family called upon songs, chants, and other rituals in their practice. . Billie received the Florida Folk Heritage Award in 1985, and passed her knowledge on to her daughter, Agnes Cypress, and her apprentice, Mary Johns. . Traditional medicine ways are central to our healing legacies. Are you familiar with any ancestral herbalists? Or folk healers from your neck of the woods? Give them a shout out below . . Your brain is a profound light detecting organ. So much so that sunlight doesn’t need to use your eyes to get inside your head. Much like we know that x-rays wi...ll absorb through biological barriers without being ‘seen’ your brain is designed to absorb all types of frequencies from the sun. It explains why without proper connection to sunlight and lack of physical activity and bad food, that so many more people in the modern world are becoming obese and battling all types of chronic diseases. We’ve forgotten how to let our bodies listen to nature, as they are designed to. In 2020 study in Nature showed that certain neurons inside our brains express a protein called Opsin 5 that can detect a specific wavelength of light from the sun. Those neurons, in turn, send signals that influence a number of our body functionsincluding our metabolism. For example, evidence that the visual violet light found in normal sunlight, plays a direct role in regulating the fat-burning process in mice. The brain’s ability to trigger this response to the gene for Opsin 5. Gisible violet light at the 380 nm wavelength actS like an off-switch telling the mice to shut down the fat-burning process. Sunlight is also the primary stimulator of serotonin release in the brain. In a study looking at brain scans of people with mild loss of thought and memory ability, Johns Hopkins researchers report evidence of lower levels of the serotonin transporter a natural brain chemical that regulates mood, sleep and appetite. For neurodegenerative disorder introducing it’s been suggested that using a substitute neurotransmitter could slow or stop the progression of Alzheimer’s disease and perhaps other dementias. However, the research is showing that you just can’t beat the real thing. So if you want to lose weight, feel sharp and maintain memory, get in the sun! If too much indoor time as a child increases risks of obesity and metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, are those metabolic settings permanent? If there is one health tip I can give you today. Increase your sunlight exposure including full spectrum sunlight from sunrise to sunset. How does your brain feel on sunlight?
