I was helping my wonderful models *read bribed friends* choose their outfits for my fall family mini session ad picture tomorrow and realize most people don’t know what to expect from a mini session and if it’s right for them! Mini sessions are great way to get a few updates family photos at a cheaper price! Family mini sessions remove the hassle of figuring out all the details such as time, place and location. Because mini sessions only happen certain times of year your pho...tographer will already have all that information figured out. Bonus Info: Mini session time and place have all been carefully scouted and chosen by the photographer to ensure you look stunning in your pictures! Yes, the location and time have a huge impact of things like your preventing dark under eye circles, softening wrinkles and preventing squinty watery eyes. This helps us provide the most flattering and highest quality images possible! Because mini sessions are are shorter they are great for out going kids and ones with short attention spans. Or for families with older kids who can be moved in and out of poses quickly. If you only need a few updates pictures, don’t have a ton of time, planning isn’t your thing and/or have a smaller budget, mini sessions may be your thing. Love this post to show my models some love for their outfits! They look so good and I’m excited to be back out shooting!

My husband doesn’t like pictures. I get this comment all the time! I just got it today in reply to my stories! Most husbands don’t like pictures and that’s totally normal. The best thing to do is to figure out why and alleviate the issue.... I’m going to give you the 2 most common reasons why husbands object and tips to get you and your husband can get on the same page about this years family pictures. 1. Money Only you and your husband knows what you have available to spend. Staying within that budget shows a respect towards your husband and makes taking pictures an easier ask. Research your local photographers and their prices. Many of them won’t show up on Google. Ask for referrals in your local mommies group and from friends and family. If you’ve found a local photographer you love but I’d out of your price range, ask them if they are offering mini family sessions this year! PRO TIP: photographers usually have their mini-session dates plan out in advance. Ask them now to make sure you have your finances in order and are scheduled because these tend to sell out within days! Photographers know other photographers! Let your photographer know your max budget and ask them for referrals for someone who is a better fit for your budget. Odds are they know someone who will be a a similar style but is in your price range. 2. Bad Past Experience Family photo sessions seems great on paper, but difficult in reality. Between finding clothes, scheduling, money and praying your kids behave, it can be too much for many people. Finding ways to ease that pressure off your spouse can make a major shift on their outlook on family pictures. Taking on coordinating clothes, choosing a date that doesn’t conflict with any of his activities, and preparing the kids ahead of time will help it be a smoother transition for him. Find a photographer who specializes in families and has great reviews. They know how to wrangle in the littles, but also how to get the husbands to relax, smile and maybe even enjoy themselves a bit. Family mini sessions may be more your speed. A twenty minute session opposed to an hour may be more doable for your husband.

Anyone else struggle with choosing outfits for family pictures? We either all looked super matchy matchy or all disjointed. Then I learned the magic of color palettes. Now choosing family outfits is a breeze!... By choosing a color palette you limit your options and save yourself hours of mindlessly scrolling though Amazon hoping to find something that works. Instead you can be using that time for you and some much needed R&R. Color palettes work by choosing 3 - 4 colors that work well with each other. If you don’t have time to create your perfect color palette (who does) Pinterest has a ton of them! You assign each person one color as their dominant color. The other colors in your palette become their accent colors. Now that you know your color palette, it removes the overwhelm of limitless options and only shows you choices that go together! BONUS TIP! Stick to soft neutrals -think blush, tans and dusty blues. Not only do they look great on camera but they look great with any skin tone! If you are just dying for a pop of color -I do like adding pop to my pictures- try to settle on just one. I want to know what you want to hear more of! After a scary visit to the Dr. we confirmed that Luke has digestion issues! So we’re making the transition as a family to a more fiber rich and digestive friendly diet! . . What does that mean? Well, I’ve always love homemade food and believe in ingredients over products, but I didn’t realize how often we’d grab muffins and crackers instead of fruit or veggies! We’re reducing our favorite carb snacks (everything in moderation right?) and including more fresh fruit and veggie...s. We’ve moved off cows milk (well, except Vaughn because once a dairy farmer, always a dairy farmer ) and started getting our calcium from cheese sticks and yogurt to limit dairy induced constipation. And of course we are loading up on all the fiber! (Luke loves peas and beans! Who knew?) . . I grew up with a mom who always told us to make sure we ate our greens and salad -and no, salads don’t count as greens! It’s been fun seeing what new foods the kids like and learning how to be more mindful of what we’re eating. . . I’ve had to transition from, what am I in the mood for, to meal planning. I’m giving my family the most opportunities to create healthy habits and feel and be the best they can be! . . I’m always looking for new recipes (Pinterest has been great!) and I’d love to hear your favorite healthy meals in the comment below! See more

Our family pictures are photographed, printed, framed and hung! . . It only took us two days to get dressed, hairs done and out on time to take them, but we did it! And with a little ice cream incentive, one of my favorite tips to give parents before their session, we had happy kids all hour long!

Growing up, our holidays always included family and lots of really good homemade food! I’m grateful that I am able to continue this tradition with my girls who made @sixsisters #magicsmorebars and @onceuponachef #juicysteakhouseburgers for the family for the first time and all by themselves! It made this 4th of July a little bit sweeter. Vaughn DeGolyer

I have never wished for snow more than today! With things still closed, we’ve been spending a lot of time outside getting the kids energy out. . . But after a morning walk in 84 degree temperature and a dip in the pool in 93 degree weather, I’m looking forward to cooler weather this week. .... . I hope everyone is taking cool during this heat! And he commanded them that there should be no contention one with another, but that they should look forward with bone eye, having one faith and one baptism, having their hearts cknit together in unity and in love one towards another. Mosiah 18:21
