Did you know that July is Juvenile Arthritis (JA) Awareness month? An estimated 300,000 children in the U.S. that’s 1 in 250 kids are affected by some form of JA. The most common symptoms are ongoing joint swelling, pain, and stiffness. ... There is no easy way to tell whether or not your child has juvenile arthritis, but a consistent presence of the symptoms outlined above should compel your child’s doctor to conduct further tests. Physical exams, blood tests, and x-rays are just a few of the things a doctor may employ to determine an accurate diagnosis. #strongerthanJA #health #nhhealthcenter #monthlyawareness

Injuries are a leading cause of disability for people of all ages and they are the leading cause of death for Americans ages 1 to 44. The good news is everyone can get involved to help prevent injuries. This month, we encourage you to learn more about important safety issues like prescription painkiller abuse, transportation safety, and slips, trips, and falls. Prescription painkiller abuse: Prescription painkiller overdoses are a growing problem in the United States, espec...ially among women. About 18 women die every day from a prescription painkiller overdose more than 4 times as many as back in 1999. Transportation safety: Doing other activities while driving like texting or eating distracts you and increases your chance of crashing. Almost 1 in 5 crashes (17%) that injured someone involved distracted driving. Slips, trips, and falls: One in 3 older adults falls each year. Many falls lead to broken bones and other health problems You can make a difference. #safety #safetyfirst #wellness #preventinginjuries #monthlyawareness

Studies have shown that one in five American adults are struggling with mental illness and many do not seek help due to the stigma surrounding mental health. Many live in silence, undiagnosed and untreated, which can worsen their symptoms. Do what you can and spread awareness and destigmatize mental illness. Exercise can help decrease tension, elevate your mood, and improve sleep habits. Mind-body practices like yoga and meditation can also provide relief. In collaboration with the Concerned Family Ministry and Non-Profit M.E.M.O. (Medical, Educational Missions and Outreach), we held a community health day last weekend where we offered free health and dental screenings, food and clothing to the community members of Perris, CA. In addition, we were able to witness some great Mexican folkloric dancing. We appreciated meeting this community and we look forward to future collaborations. A huge thank you to all the volunteers that helped make this happen! #servingthoseinneed #givingback #nonprofits #community

May is Mental Health Matters Month and NH Health Center is joining the movement to ensure that our community understands, respects, and prioritizes mental health by hosting the We Care Community Event. This event will help us raise mental health awareness and will allow us to unite with the community in an effort to increase the number of individuals speaking out and seeking help. In addition to mental health resources, the event will offer free health screenings, glasses for children, and will provide a variety of food sales, including food trucks, paella, and boba.
