STILL LIFE was a harrowing, riveting play about the effects of war, specifically the Vietnam War, on three people who lived through it. The production took the audience on an intense journey and was met with stellar reviews and profoundly affected audience members. In lieu of our unforgettable annual gala, we are getting some fresh air with our inaugural Arts on the Green Golf Tournament on June 14, 2021 at El Camino Country Club. Lyle Kessler's ORPHANS was a big hit for NVA in 2003. The production was extended twice and received awards for Best Ensemble from the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle and Best Ensemble and Best Direction from Backstage. For this show, the character of Phillip, played by Joshua Everett Johnson, was onstage from the time the audience entered the studio space at Jazzercise and gave a glimpse into the unique world these brothers had created. #Orphans #OrphansPlay #NewVillageArts #NVA #20thAnniversary

NVA's second Shakespeare in the Park production, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, traveled from the Del Mar Plaza to Stagecoach Park in Carlsbad, and on to the Warner Springs Ranch. This irreverant production double-cast the lovers with the mechanicals and featured original music by Susanna Kurner, Paul Woodrum and George Ye. There are too many stories to include in a social media post. It was quite memorable. This week New Village Arts is going to highlight all of the incredible artists we had the privilege of working with during our Hispanic Heritage Month celebraciones! To wrap up this week of performance, we are so excited to share the work of the Mother of the House of Z, the producer and creative director of Barbie’s Dollhouse, the drag mother-in-law of our very own Frankie Alicea-Ford, and the co-producer and co-host of New Village Reinas: Barbie Z! She is truly one of the b...est drag queens that San Diego has to offer and we are so grateful that she shared her work with us! We are looking forward to getting her back on our stages again soon but, until then, here she is performing POSA. Good luck not having this performance stuck in your head for days.
