My name is Louie Heckerman, and I am an alumnus of New Hope Grief Support community. My wife and I lost our beautiful daughter Whitney suddenly during the pandemic in 2020. Thankfully, New Hope was here for me and I was able to attend the Child Loss support group. This experience was just what I needed to help with my grief. As part of New Hope's Community Support Campaign - Post Cards From My Grief Journey - I wanted to share my own grief journey with you. My hope is that ...you are encouraged by the ways New Hope has helped me and so many others in the community. Will you please take a moment to watch it and see how New Hope supported me? As a way to give back, I serve on the New Hope Golf Tournament Committee, and most recently I have been trained to facilitate grief support groups for other parents grieving the loss of a child. I want to make sure that other grieving parents like me get the support they need. Thank you for taking the time to listen to Post Cards from my grief journey. If you are able, please consider joining me in supporting New Hope so others get the support they need. * * * Since January, we have experienced a 30% increase in calls and emails on our support line from people who have lost loved ones during the pandemic. No one has been turned away for services, our staff and wonderful volunteers have been working tirelessly to meet this growing need. To keep up with the growing demand for our services and to help people like Louie we need your support. Our Annual Community Support Campaign ends on May 31st and we are a little over halfway to meeting our 30K goal. Donate $25+ and you will be entered to win one of our wonderful prizes, including wine tasting In Temecula, a sunrise hot-air balloon ride for 2, and much more. Donate by texting NEWHOPE to 44321 or donate online https://bit.ly/NHCSC21 All proceeds raised during our Community Support Campaign will fund and provide scholarships for our grief support groups, family camps, school groups, and community outreach and education. Thank you in advance for your support in helping us to reach our goal and to ensure that no grieving adult, child, or family goes without the proper grief support. #griefjourney #newhope #newhopecommunity #griefsupport #griefvoices #supportandcommunity #longbeach #grief

Thank you What's Your Grief for this. In a year of unprecedented loss, there is a fair chance that facing the holidays is filling you with dread. If so, you’re not alone. More than ever, this year people are thinking about traditions that will have to shift or won’t happen at all. After a year of distancing and isolation, the thought of a holiday without the usual family togetherness may feel like a difficult pill to swallow. We have heard many people asking for virtual holiday celebration ideas if you can’t be with your family for the holiday.

This holiday toolkit from NAGC National Alliance for Grieving Children is provided with the hopes it will provide ideas and inspiration for families to celebrate loved ones, those present and those who have died. We hope together your family will create conversations and activities to honor the holiday season and your loved ones. https://childrengrieve.org//NAGC_Holiday_Toolkit-_A_Season

There is never a good time for a student to grieve the death of a loved one. It is even more difficult for a child to be experiencing grief during a pandemic. T...rusted adults play such important roles in supporting these grieving students. If you or someone you know works with students who are grieving, check out our latest article entitled Supporting Grieving Students in This Time of COVID-19.
