Despite President’s Weekend and our new therapist, Melissa’s, birthday, the staff at New Edge had a week filled with patients and squeezed in a staff inservice on shoulder dysfunction and post operative rehab techniques to minimize use of the various rotator cuff muscles. Joyce and Tamsyn also managed to begin an advanced course on balance and fall prevention rehabilitation. Call 432-9660 if you have any rehabilitation needs!

Throwback Thursday! Today is the first of many patient testimonials to come! At New Edge Physical Therapy, not only do we value our patients and strive to help them overcome pain and limitation, we truly get to know them as people and love learning about their lives, goals and desires for the future. Today's patient testimonial is on Karl Miller. When he began physical therapy, Karl was initially concerned about balance issues due to peripheral neuropathy. Many times, he felt... as if he was going to fall forward. It was a challenge to play pickelball and close his eyes while in the shower. He also notes that he was beginning to shuffle while walking, hiking, and had been tripping over rugs in his home. With the help of the therapists at New Edge Physical Therapy and the exercises he was given both in and outside of the clinic, his balance and mobility at home and on the pickelball court have greatly improved. Karl states, " Even through my peripheral neuropathy will never improve due to nerve damage, I have new exercises and strategies for dealing with my balance problems. I can even balance with my eyes closed now which has made navigating my home at night and in the shower much better." Karl is a great example of how physical therapy can help with balance, confidence and assist patients in returning to active and healthy lives. WE ARE OPEN AND ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS! PLEASE CALL 530-432-9660 TO SCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT TODAY.

March 20: New Edge has been monitoring the latest information from the CDC, APTA and state organizations with regards to the COVID-19 virus and the safety measures that have been recommended to keep our patients and staff safe. While the decision to close for a period of time has been contemplated, today's emerging data from the government is suggesting, as we know, that physical therapy is a critical piece of our healthcare system. We have been urged to remain open while tak...ing the greatest safety precautions so that patients can stay active, healthy, and receive the appropriate post-operative care in order to ensure them a speedy/ full recovery. According to Dr. Matos, an expert in biologic surety and the management of select agent programs at federal facilities: Physical therapists are essential in flattening the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic. They play a key role in keeping people they can help out of the doctor offices and ER’s. This will not only free up the medical teams to treat those impacted by COVID-19, but also limit the exposure of those seeking the care of the physical therapist. At New Edge Physical Therapy, we are wearing masks, gloves, disinfecting before and after every patient, and treating patients every hour along with staggering our physical therapists' schedules to ensure that there is also minimal patient to patient contact. Please know that you do not need to see your physician first and that physical therapists do have direct access in California with few exceptions. Please let us know how we can serve you during this critical time.

Special Announcement Regarding COvid-19/ Corona Virus At New Edge Physical Therapy, we have always worked diligently to ensure that our facilities are disinfected, tidy and safe for each and every patient that walks through our doors. With the current situation regarding COVID-19, we are working even harder to ensure that social distancing is being practiced, patients have the right to request a private treatment room, patients are washing their hands immediately upon enterin...g the waiting room, there are additional sanitizing bottles throughout the clinic, and individuals that are coughing/sneezing/febrile are being asked to stay at home. We know how important your therapy sessions and their consistency are to your overall quality of life and ability to perform activities of daily living. While we cannot stop the spread of COVID-19, by working together, we can minimize its' spread and decrease the vulnerability to those with compromised health. See more

Today, Rex completed his therapy at New Edge Physical Therapy. These were his comments in regards to working with our amazing therapist, Monica Jackson. When I began Physical Therapy, I felt somewhat afraid that my shoulder would hinder me for the rest of my life. I could only move through 60% of my ROM prior to pain. The orthopedic surgeon said that I could have surgery or PT and I chose PT. I now have full range or motion and little to no discomfort in my shoulder. It no longer limits me with daily activities and I am confident that I will no longer need surgery. I can pick up my kids, reach items off the top shelf in the kitchen and I plan on continuing my home exercises/ lifting weights so that my shoulder will remain great!!!

Anyone looking for a great book to pass the time?!? Today’s Throwback Thursday highlights renowned author, Avanti Centrae, and the difficulties she faced while working on her best selling novel! Avanti first came to physical therapy due to an onset of carpal tunnel in both wrists/ hands. Her fingers felt swollen and she was wearing braces on both hands when she arrived for her first appointment. As an author, the discomfort made writing her award-winning thrillers much more ...difficult, and our goal was to get her back to the keyboard as soon as possible. Through a combination of manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and various modalities, Avanti needed only ten sessions before she dropped the splints and was pain-free. She states, Tamsyn and her crew were professional and caring from the first session to the last. I looked forward to the treatments and found rapid relief. Although the carpal tunnel was uncomfortable, it was a pleasure to be treated by this amazing team! At New Edge, we like to think that we had a hand in the success of VANOPS: THE LOST POWER, a multi-award-winning international thriller in the vein of DA VINCI CODE meets TOMB RAIDER. If you like edge-of-the-seat suspense, the first six chapters are free on her website at www.avanticentrae.com.
