The school environment and philosophy plays a huge role in how effectively students can learn, establish healthy relationships, and persevere through challenging times. At New Designs Charter Schools, we understand this, and we understand the kids we serve. All of our programs and activities serve to strengthen our students’ mind and body. https://www.newdesignscharter.com/Student-Life
Autumn Fun Fact: In many places in the world, Autumn reveals a variety of beautiful colored leaves. Each tree produces different colors that announce the rhythm of the changing seasons. Trees rely on the strong Spring and Summer sunlight to give energy to their leaves. In turn, the leaves use Chlorophyll (a green pigment) to produce nutrients for the tree. However the leaves also contain other hidden pigments such as Xanthophylls (yellows, Carotenoids (oranges), and Anthocya...nins (reds). Each type of tree has a different mix of these pigments. When the temperature gets lower and the daylight gets shorter, leaves get the signal to stop producing food for the trees. As the Chlorophyll breaks down, the bright colors can emerge and give us the beauty of Autumn leaves! Once the leaf ends it’s food production, it will fall to the ground and become fertilizer for the soil, or get raked up! What do you love about Autumn leaves? See more

New Designs Charter Schools was founded by Dr. Yaw O. Adutwum who saw a need for college preparatory educational opportunities for students in south Los Angeles. Dr. Adutwum, formerly the lead math teacher at Manual Arts High School in LAUSD and the USC Neighborhood Academic Initiative, acted on his idea and formed New Designs Charter School. We opened our doors on September 7, 2004, to 120 students in grades six through eight. Since then, we have grown into three campuses serving 1300 students in the sixth through twelfth grades.
New Designs Charter Schools derives its name from New Designs for Learning, a national organization based at Oregon State University. New Designs is a novel education model integrating academic and technical education curricula developed under the direction of Dr. George Copa.
