DID YOU KNOW? Charitable donations made directly from a traditional IRA can save taxes-even if you don't itemize! For people 70 and older the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) is now back after a one-year Covid-19 break. However, you (and if married your spouse as well) can transfer up to $100,000 yearly from IRAs directly to a charity and those donations count towards your RMD. So how does that help save on your taxes? Well, qualified charitable distributions from your I...RA are not taxable and so are not added to your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) - reducing your taxable income even if you don't itemize your deductions. The IRA-to-charity strategy can be a good way to get tax savings from your regular charitable gifts (tithes & offerings) or a special gift even if you no longer itemize due to the higher standard deduction.
