REPOST from @theaanp Thousands of patients are at risk of losing access to life-saving compounded medications. In 2013, Congress passed the Drug... Quality and Security Act (DQSA) to help protect consumers from contaminated or harmful medications. In doing so, Congress enhanced the regulatory authority of the FDA to oversee how and which medications would be compounded. However, Congress made clear statements that the new regulations should not interfere with the practice of medicine. From limiting the number of medications that pharmacies can send out of state to patients, to removing historically safe and natural ingredients from the safe to compound list, the FDA has overstepped its authority. Not only is the FDA acting in a manner inconsistent with congressional intent, they are harming patient health by creating an unnecessary gap in access to medications. If you work with or use compounding medications, act now and submit a comment using the link in our bio. @ Nature & Science Medicine See more

Are you a coffee lover? Coffee is an anti-oxidant that may enhance cognitive function while reducing the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, parkinson’s disease, and liver disease. However, there are potential risks such as stomach distress, anxiety/jitteriness, bladder and esophageal cancer. Here’s what we recommend: Limit to 1-2 cups daily... Have your coffee mid-morning to help your body maintain a balanced cortisol and insulin response Avoid extremely hot temperatures to minimize esophageal cancer risk Try adding unsweetened alternative milks (almond, coconut, hemp, etc.) rather then adding sugar & cream ALWAYS buy organic! Non-organic coffee is sprayed with chemicals, pesticides, etc. We are your partners for optimized health. Schedule your free 15 minute consult 858.800.2555

REPOST from our fellow ND @drgriffinmcmath . . . Nutritional supplements are another popular target for fakes... an amazon merchant sold dupes of genuine probiotics made by Align, a Procter & Gamble brand. . . . Amazon is trying out several initiatives to detect counterfeiters, like Brand Registry and Project Zero, but for so many reasons these initiatives really leave SO many quality assurance and patient safety measures to fall through the cracks. .... . . When patients or family and friends ask what supplement they should buy off Amazon, I cringe. Buying a supplement because an influencer tags/is sponsored by, reading an article and finding the cheapest product on Amazon, all can lead to you taking a product potentially contraindicated ( ) for you or not even clinically relevant (so, among other things - waste of money). . . . This is one of the many reasons I say go see an ND. We are trained physicians who assess, diagnose, and treat with the specialty understanding of how to safely incorporate or manage pharmaceuticals, supplements/vitamins/nutrients, and nutrition - even if you’re on all these interventions at once (let’s table the conversation for now about the % of patients who don’t report their supplement use to conventional providers not trained in understanding how to manage). . . . . NDS are trained how to ensure a company or lab has followed the right quality assurance measures and if a product is effective and safe for our patients or filled with . . . . Another thing - certain components of a supplement need certain shipping and storage conditions. The companies NDs work with operate solely for these kinds of medical interventions - they don’t also sell skateboards, TVs, and your last minute flip-flop purchase for your upcoming vacation. . . . They know the required temperature, packing needs, storing conditions, and even track ingredients that require additional doctor’s consent for your safety. . . . I could go on and on and on about this... but instead, I’ll ask - any questions? See more

Think twice next time you reach for that burger! Although this might seem like old news, newly released research showed red meat intake is linked to a 10% higher risk of early death. This risk increases further if you are consuming processed red meat - think hot dogs, bacon, pepperoni, salami, etc. So what should you do?... Increase vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean protein (poultry, fish) + plant based protein (nuts, legumes, tempeh/tofu) Eat red meat on special occasions if you wish but always opt for unprocessed organic & grass fed options to decrease toxin load. The Environmental Working Group just released the Dirty Dozen & Clean Fifteen for 2019! The Dirty Dozen are the fruits & vegetables found to have the highest level of pesticides, meaning these are the most important to buy organic. Some updated facts about pesticides: This year they found that 70% of non-organic produce sampled tested positive for pesticide contamination 92% of kale samples tested positive for 2 or more pesticide residues ... Women who ate produce with high pesticide levels had a 26% lower risk of having a successful pregnancy AND men had lower sperm quality! Findings suggest an offspring’s risk of autism increases following prenatal exposure to ambient pesticides within 2000 meters of their mother’s residence during pregnancy. And infant exposure could further increase the risk. Pesticides have also been linked to ADHD, Parkinsons, and some cancers. So what can you do? Start buying organic using these handy guides & download the EWG app! For further guidance: 858.800.2555. BMJ 2019;364:l962
