Orthoceras is an extinct nautiloid cephalopod that existed 488 million years ago during the Cambrian period. Orthoceras, meaning "straight horn", are commonly associated with limestone and largely occur in Morocco, Scandinavia, Iowa, and the alps. Fossils from the Cambrian period are marked as the first representatives of all modern animal phyla. They ranged in size from less than a centimeter to 14 feet long. Their living relatives today include squid, octopus, and nautilus which are predators. It is probable that they even fed on trilobites! Want to see these beautiful specimens in person? Come see us in Sebastopol!

Today's featured artist is Isha Elafi! "This jewelry is the culmination of years of wandering, working, and enjoying this world. I would like to thank existence for this life and pleasure of sharing creation. Each piece is hand crafted and original. Isha knots together stones, silver, gems, and artifacts found on her travels: a modern interpretation of ancient adornment. These pieces are durable and hand washable using a toothbrush and mild soap." - Isha These pieces and more are available at Sagestone Gallery in Sebastopol!
