How is Handmade Natural Soap Made? The soap maker decides what qualities they want in the soap; how much it lathers, hardness of the bar, color, scent and cleansing qualities. Then specific high quality oils are chosen to provide the qualities of the soap that is wanted. Olive, coconut, palm, castor, jojoba, avocado and many others are available. Then the oils are blended and an alkali (sodium hydroxide) is added with water or other ingredients like goats milk. The ingred...ients are stirred until saponification takes place. That is where the oils and the alkali make a new molecule called Soap. The molecular configuration of the oils change and the sodium hydroxide disappears and what is left is natural glycerin and soap. Glycerin is the natural by product of the process and is very good for your skin. Handmade soap does not strip the moisture from your skin as it gently cleanses. There are no preservatives, surfactants or chemicals in Natural Handmade Soap. Many soap makers add pure essential oils, which are oils distilled from the original plant source such as lavender. Many add botanicals such as oatmeal, lemongrass or poppy seeds for color, scent and exfoliation properties. Handmade Natural Soap is just that, simply pure soap.
