What I imagined my life as a designer would look like...and the reality Watch me and my G.C. husband team up to transform a dated kitchen and living room TONIGHT on HGTV’s HouseHunters Renovation. We never know how these episodes will be edited, but this time they filmed some scenes at my studio (see some of the crew crammed into the bathroom!), and I hope it makes the cut!

I love this project so much! For my clients, who are the coolest, and for the rooms I've designed throughout their house over the last couple of years. The living and dining room was the last one left, and me and my team installed and shot it with the fabulous Amy Bartlam last week. Even with a leaf-blower drowning out our groove music, this is my kind of fun. :) :) :)

Today I was quoted on Freshome in a story about kitchen remodel tips from interior designers. So here is what I'm talking about: My kitchen bar in 3 stages - when we bought the house, right after the remodel, and after an update and styling. Sometimes it’s not about doing a total remodel. I updated my own kitchen last year by simply swapping out bar stools and pendant lights, and replacing a cabinet with open shelving. I was inspired by the BoHo trend, so I gave my contemporary kitchen some organic touches that make it feel warmer and more alive. https://freshome.com/interior-designers-share-kitchen-remod

One of the best things we can hear from a client is that our design work has changed their relationship to their home. In the weeks after we installed this master bedroom, my pair of television-writer clients told me that they would wake up in their transformed master bedroom, and talk about how they couldn’t believe they were in their own house. The wife reports that her husband, who may lean toward untidiness, now rushes around in the morning, making the bed and tucking clothes into drawers. He always jokes that he has to leave the room looking nice for the guests. Given that the couple asked me for a space that felt like a serene, comfortable and unique suite in a bed and breakfast, I’d say our work here is done! This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for clients who believe in my work and let me play in their houses!! This one is very excited that her relatives will be coming to stay in a transformed Guest Bedroom. (And lest it look too inviting for only the occasional visitors, my client reports that she watched a movie and ate ice-cream in bed in here on a recent weekend afternoon, and felt like she was on vacation:)) All these pictures are by the talented Amy Bartlam Photography
