Parks, Andrea Richards and Teena Apeles Celebrate the city's parks in A VERY COOL WAY. :) "They put together a coloring and activity book for all ages, which features more than 50 of the city's parks. There is a little history for each Park and accompanying illustration by local artists, ranging in age from 8 to 87. It is a UNIQUELY FUN AND INFORMATIVE GUIDE to the city's Parks. Last fall, we put out a call asking Angelenos to help us create a thoughtful and artful tour of our city's public parks, by reflecting on a park that had special meaning to them and depicting a scene or feature of the parkor personal memorythey hold dear. Individuals of all ages responded to our call, introducing us to numerous parks and sharing original artwork and special memories that brought both the parks and the contributors (our future friends) into our homes. For th...e months that followed, we traveled to each city park through their drawings and via Google street view (and some in person), researching many of their histories and how they came to be. Now our love letter to public parks, We Heart L.A. Parks (weheartlaparks.com), is almost here. It’s a lovingly assembled collection that shows how we and our contributors connected to the outdoors and each other in remarkable ways during the most challenging times. Each art and story submission was the hug we needed. We can’t wait for you to see it! Order We Heart L.A. Parks at weheartlaparks.com. We will start shipping books in May and it will be available at select stores soon! A percentage of profits from the book will be donated to the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust, whose mission is to contribute to the equity and well-being of our neighborhoods through the development of parks, gardens, and community-driven organizing.
