NAMI National has reconfigured its organizational structure and refined its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategy. Embedding JUSTICE as one of the pillars of DEI will transform our operations and reorient mindsets toward a focus on cultural humility and the role it will play in achieving NAMI’s justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) goals across the Alliance. Learn more about this project during a Virtual Town Hall this Thursday, May 27th from 1-2:30 PM PST: https://zoom.us//regi/tJMldeypqj0pGtJMRd4nGKrh22w029zroIz3

Thanks to over 65,000 NAMI advocates sending messages to Capitol Hill, Congress just passed COVID-19 relief legislation which includes funding to help states provide mental health services and support! This bill helps by: --Providing flexible funding through the mental health block grant so states and local communities can decide where the money should be best spent to support people with mental health conditions --Creating new requirements of health insurers to increase comp...liance with mental health parity --Limiting what people have to pay when they receive surprise medical bills after being treated by out-of-network providers As we reflect on a difficult year, we are grateful to you for your role in making this possible!

ADVOCACY ALERT! Important negotiations on a COVID-19 relief bill are happening in Washington, D.C. right now. This bill should help individuals and communities who are struggling, but the current proposal doesn’t include help for mental health. Tell your members of Congress TODAY to support flexible funding for mental health services and supports in communities across the country using the link below https://nami.quorum.us/campaign/29763/

Each year, NAMI California asks its membership to assist in guiding, informing, and prioritizing its advocacy work, including which pieces of legislation put the most effort toward in the upcoming 2020-2021 legislative session. We hope you'll take the time to complete the attached survey!
NAMI has always seen first responders as partners and life savers in so many situations. NAMI has programs that teach law enforcement and other first responders about mental health. The burden on officers to try and determine in life and death situations is not the best; they need support, training and, in some cases, the ability to call on psychiatric professionals to help. ... Having a son who had many times been confronted by police, all of them with good outcomes, many admitted they depended on the essential training and support of professionals too.
Honored to present during Northeast LAPD Roll Call this morning on #WorldMentalHealthDay to talk about #FirstRespondersFirst and NAMI Frontline Wellness. #notalone
